Thank you for organizing the youth hockey tournament for Fridley’s WinterFest 2015!  The wonderful 40 degree weather and fun activities brought out a record number of people, we estimated 900!  It was so great to see so many community members out enjoying the afternoon together.  This event would not be possible without the help of so many groups, organizations and volunteers.  The youth hockey tournament is such a great addition to this event and I love to see the players enjoying the other activities as well.

On behalf of the entire Fridley Parks and Recreation Department I want to thank you for continuing to be involved in WinterFest, we hope that the NMYHA will join us again next year!  Please pass on our thanks to the players and their families (I have attached a collage of pics as well.)

Thank you!

Congratulations to the NM Bantams on their championship win at the 2014 Schwan's Cup. The Bantams gave up only one goal last weekend beating Blaine, Champlin Park and Moundsview/Irondale to win the Cup.

Justin Winker Scholarship Winners Announced

Two winners have been chosen as recipients of the 2014 Justin Winker Scholarship. His friends and family created the scholarship in memory of Justin.

Participants were asked to write a 500-word essay on how youth hockey helped prepare them for college. An award of $500.00 was handed to each of the winners by association president Keith Vowels at the July board meeting.

The recipients, pictured with Keith, are Jacob Lange (University of North Dakota) and Megan Peterson (College of St. Scholastica)

Fridley 49er Days Parade

We had a great turnout for the Fridley parade!  Thank you to everyone who participated!

A note from D3

D3 wants everyone to know they are making a strong effort to reduce head contact (and hopefully the prevalence of concussions).

North Metro Youth Hockey Association

Hockey is not an end. It is a means to an end. There is nothing inherently good about scoring, forechecking, backchecking, or winning. It is only good if it promotes education and learning. Those that come away with a higher work ethic, honesty, and integrity are the true winners. Hockey does not build character, rather it reveals it. It's these values that do more than anything else we develop that will be the true measure of how successful the NMYHA is.
